George R. Thrift

George R. Thrift was born about 1794. He may have been a son of Nathaniel Thrift.

George served in 37th Regiment of the Virginia Militia during the War of 1812. The Northern Neck was frequently raided, with many homes and farms destroyed. The 37th was likely called on to fend of some of those raids.

After the war George married Mary Beale Jone, nicknamed Polly, in August 1815. They had at least 5 children.

The 1820 census lists Geo. Thrift as a family head in Richmond County. Household members were; one male under 10, one male 16-25, one female under 10, one female 10-15 and one female 16-25.

The 1830 census lists George R. Thrift in Richmond County. Household members were; one male 30-39, two females under 5, 2 females 5-9, one female 10-14 and one female 30-39.

The 1840 census for Richmond County also lists George R. Thrift as the head of a family. Household members were; one male under 5, one male 30-39, one male 40-49, two females 10-14, one female 15-19, one female 20-29 and one female 40-49.

George died before 1850. His burial location is unknown. His wife appears living the family of their daughter Lucy, who married John Austin.
